About the Book:
‘ही वाट दूर जाते’ (Hee Vaat Door Jaate) is a novel written in Marathi by Mohana Karkhanis. This is her first novel though she is well known in the world of short-story writing with many awards (literally much more than that can be counted on the fingers) at Maharashtra state as well as international levels in her kitty.
Book Review:
This novel runs speedily on two rails of the family life and professional career of Aditi. On one hand, Aditi is involved with her family consisting of her younger brother, her parents, and her grandparents, and on the other hand, she has a complex relationship with her colleagues Mr Rege, Swami, Vasvani and Nikita, Amala, Alaka, etc. Her close association first with Kunal and later with Vinay Arora is also very realistic and spell-binding.
The reader gets the first jolt when the dedicated Aditi, receives an offer from another company. The emotional turbulence in Aditi’s mind is very nicely sketched. The various characters moving around Aditi and the unpredictable behaviour of the people around her make the reading absorbing. The interweaving of the events happening in the family and the office is superbly handled by the author. The vast canvas of Aditi’s life unfolds at a pace that keeps the reader engrossed.
But at the end of such a realistic and engaging novel slips on the lines of typical family drama where all the characters of the entire bioscope get together at her bungalow “Vainatey” and leave the reader with a realization that the entire episode was just a drama far away from reality.
Barring this little blemish of unsuitable ending, the entire novel is gripping. A wonderful mix of reality, imagination, and complex behaviour of human beings. A must-read.
This riveting creation in her first attempt at novel writing has pinned very high hopes in her incoming new novel.
