Vaccum brewed Siphon Coffee!

Have you ever tried Siphon Coffee?

Siphon Coffee? You might not have heard about it, as I too had not until I visited La Vinto, a café in Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh).  La Vinto serves Columbian coffee of arabican flavour, which has a  light and flowery taste that many coffee lovers crave for.

Siphon Coffee is not a widely known coffee trend in India.  But for years, it is a phenomenal coffee trend in many other countries, like France, the United States or Japan. The Siphon coffee trend is not new,  it’s a centuries-old brewing method that is just making a huge comeback.

Siphon coffee is also known as Vacuum Brewer, this method is done mostly by hand and requires precise temperature, attention and some skill. It was developed in the 1840s when people were agreed that boiling the coffee grounds killed its taste, so they experimented with an alternative way to brew coffee with vapour pressure.

The Siphon coffee maker contains two-part; the top container is filled with coffee powder and the bottom container is filled with water. By heating the water container, vapour pressure forces the water to rise into the top container where it is mixed with the coffee. When the heat is turned off, loss of vapour pressure causes water to drop back into the lower container, and, the perfect brewed siphon coffee collects in the bottom container.

What is so special about Siphon coffee?

It produces the best flavour, vibrant tasting coffee that cannot be imitated by a drip brewer. Also, you will get an extremely clean and bright cup, with no trace of the coffee powder left in the bottom of the cup after you finished it.

The coffee aroma is more intense – the best part is, who doesn’t love the smell of freshly brewed coffee? And It’s fun to watch in the process of brewing, to see coffee and science in the action.
